Lately...

We have been super busy in this household the past month.  I started back at work January 2nd, Jong's been busy with his restaurant, and Miss Kensleigh is just a growing.

Going back to work was hard-I'm not going to lie.  Luckily, I have a support system in place.  One of my dear friends started back a little before me and it's definitely helped to have her to talk to.  We like to call ourselves the "working milk mommas".  Now  thats because we both read a book called The Milk Memos.  Its about a group of moms who work at IBM and their experiences going back to work and nursing.  I truly recommend it to anyone working/nursing.  I think I even cried a little when I finished the book because I felt like I had gotten to know these women and now that I finished it I wouldn't have them to encourage me.  There are good days and bad days.  Days I am glad to be going to work and days I feel guilty for not being at home.  But I am doing a great work and cannot come down-Nehemiah 6:3 And this is where I need to be at the moment.

Jong and I found a wonderful nanny for Kensleigh.  I couldn't be happier with her.  We both felt strongly about  keeping Kensleigh in her environment and after much discussion and a few interviews we met Katie.  And it was truly a Godsend. You know how you "just know" sometimes?  Thats how we felt about her.  I can't really explain it, but we both had a feeling and went with it and we welcomed Katie into our lives.  How our schedule plays out (since neither of us has a traditional 8-5 job) we are able to be with her most of the week and then Katie keeps her about 3 days, so it works out really well.

And then Little Miss Kens (as I like to call her) just keeps on growing.  She was 13.7lbs  (40%) and 26" long (90%) at her 4month checkup.  She is doing really good.  Just as happy as can be.  She is sleeping around 11 hours at night, can roll over both ways, and is just a joy to be around.  My favorite is walking into her room in the mornings when I hear her talking to herself and she just looks at me and smiles the biggest smile and squeals in delight.  Oh, how children change your world.  Just precious.  You almost wonder how you lived with out them and then you think, well you just slept a lot more.

Here's some of my favorite pictures lately and I promise I will try to blog a little bit more.

New Things...

Oh my where to begin...

So Jong has decided to try something new and open up a restaurant....Burger Tap-It's down in Atlanta in the Highlands.  You should go check it out-It's great food at great prices.  I made him bring me a burger last night  for dinner-yum!  And I'm not normally a burger person, but there's sometimes when all you want is a good ole burger-you know?

Kensleigh has learned to roll over.  Yep, thats right- She just growing too fast.  At her 2 month check up so was 11.9lbs and 23 3/4" long.   She is starting to stay awake lots longer and just smiles and coos all the time.  She is just so darn cute and happy all most of the  time.  I really could eat her up.

Kensleigh has also been holding her head up more and more and for longer periods of time.  So therefore I've started sitting in her bumbo.  Not quite sure what she thinks but here's a peak at her...

And the BEST thing is hearing her laugh.  She just did this today and it made my heart smile.  I laughed with her-So so so sweet.  Luckily for you I got her on video so enjoy!!!  Just so darn cute, I tell you!

And she just turned 3 months old! Wow how times flies....

bad blogger....

So, It's been over a month since my last post.  I'll admit I've been a bad blogger-  What can I say, I've had the sweetest little baby girl keeping me busy...  I mean how could I not give all my attention to this sweet face....

So Kensleigh is 10 weeks old!!! Ahh! time is flying by-I can't believe it!  She just recently started staying awake for more than 1o minutes at a time. (No, not joking-she is a very sleepy baby)  but now she can stay awake for about an hour and a half before passing back out.  She has started talking, cooing, and making the biggest gummy smiles one could ask for.  I've heard half a giggle and now I'm holding out for a whole one.  And she's almost ready to roll over-  but only when losing her paci is when I find her half way over with her mouth open wide just a searching.

What can I say-I just love her. She is the most precious gift.  So blessed!

We have a One Month Old!

So it's been one whole month since Kensleigh's arrival. She has been such a sweet blessing to us. We just love her to pieces! As Jong says, "I think I've given her one million trillion kisses in just the past 2 days..."

We have gotten a pretty good daily routine down. A typical day is waking up around 7am and eating...And from there we eat every 21/2-3 hours. And sometimes we like to stay awake a little after we eat, however others we fall fast asleep. And then we wake up only to eat again! Some afternoons we go to either the park or the greenway and walk with a couple of  friends. And others we just relax at home.(There's nothing more I would rather do than be with my sweet baby girl) And yes, we wake up in the middle of the night to eat too. But most of the time I am able to get about 5 hours of sleep at night! It's funny how you can be so sleep deprived but then your body just adjusts.

I can't believe it's been one whole month since her birth. Funny how time flies! But we are trying to soak up every minute with her. And not to say there haven't been stressful times(believe me there have been)but we figure it out and go from there.

We are lucky to have such amazing family and friends and a God who love us, to support us along this new chapter in our life. Thanks to all of you so much!  Its' been one incredible month and I know there are many more to come!

Our little Family...

So my sweet sweet husband stayed up ALL. NIGHT. to surprise me with this video.  I thought it was super sweet of him and cried when I watched it.  Let me also say that the night he did this was one of our first nights home with Kensleigh; and on this particular night she slept like a champ. I had to set my alarm to wake up and feed her and then she would go right back to sleep.  Meanwhile, I'm sleeping and Jong is working away on the computer.  (Needless to say he slept all during the day that day to catch up on his sleep).

I hope you enjoy his video.  It's our first couple of days with our baby girl.  There are some parts that are corny and others that are oh so sweet, parts that make me cry and parts that make me laugh.  And Oh, please excuse the bad hair on my end; I mean, after all I was in labor and then had just given birth- so feel free to cut me a little slack!

The Birth Story...

Okay, a little background information first...

Around 30 weeks or so the Doctor told me that I was measuring 2 weeks ahead (which is completely normal).  Then at 35 weeks she checked me and said that I was already dilating (1cm) and thinning out.  She said that that was great for 35 weeks.  She also got me a little excited because she was so enthusiastic herself when explaining all this to me.  Then at my 36 week appointment I just met with the midwife who said I was still measuring ahead, but did not check me or anything.  I proceeded to my 37 week appointment, which I was really 37 weeks and 2 days.  The midwife checked me and said, "How dilated were you at your last appointment?"  I told her that I wasn't checked last week, but that at 35 weeks I was 1cm.  She then goes, "Well honey, you are 4 cm dilated and extremely soft."  I about fell off the table.  Because Jong and I had just had our birthing class we learned that 1-3cm was early labor, 4-7 was active, etc... So I asked her "isn't that considered active labor?"  She just said that if I was contracting they would have sent me to the hospital, but I was not contracting, and just continued to have mild cramping for several days.  They next 2 days I was for sure that I was going to go into labor in the middle of the night.  However, I woke up each morning and nothing...

So the story begins...

Around 11pm saturday the 17th, I felt a little uncomfortable cramp.  I then felt it several more times and it hit me that these could be contractions; which only took me about 30 minutes to come to that realization.  I had never felt any before, not even braxton hicks throughout my pregnancy.  So around 11:30pm I started to time them.  They were about 7 minutes apart and still I was in no pain, so I thought they were fake.  Then about 1am the contractions were still coming and were still consistent, so I did what any girl would do and called my mom.  Her and my dad said they sounded like the real thing, but to stay at home and wait to see if they got closer together.  Well, this got me super excited and I told Jong that we might be having this baby today... He then got extremely anxious and started timing them with me.  Well around 3am the contractions had stayed consistent and started to get closer together.  I called the doctor, and NO answer!  I freaked, so I called again, still no answer.  So again I called my parents and asked their advice on what to do, because if I went to the hospital , I did not want to get sent home.  My dad, working in a hospital himself, said call them back, it may take them a while to answer.  So I did, and I let it ring and ring and ring and ring, it finally jusy cut me off.  Well, in the meantime I had had several close contractions, like 3 minutes apart, but then they would go to 5 minutes, 7 minutes, and back to 3 minutes.  I got scared because since I was already 4cm dilated I didn't know how fast I would progress and I did not want to have this baby in my bathroom!  I was upset and crying that no one answered the phone.  So I got out of bed, grabbed my bag and said to Jong , "Come on, we are going to have this baby!"

We made it to the hospital all anxious and excited, still not knowing if this was "it" or not.  But they admitted us, put us in the room, and had a nurse come and check me.  Now I thought all the staff was wonderful, however this particular nurse I could tell was thinking "Why is this girl at the hospital?"  I mean I was contracting but I wasn't in any pain (yet...)  She checked me and told me I was more like 3cm dilated.  I thought to myself, "There's no way, I couldn't have gone backwards."  But I just told myself that my midwife had more training so my midwife was probably correct.  A few minutes later the head nurse came in and told me that my midwife wanted to keep me for an hour and see what changes my body made on its on. Also, because I was 37 weeks they would not give me anything to help the process along-I had to go all on my on-and may I just say I was just 2 days shy of 38 weeks, but they still just considered me 37 weeks.  So I walked around the room for an hour and Jong helped me do some squats. The nurse came back in and checked me again and said that I was a real good 4, so since I had made progress she'd talk to my midwife and see what she wanted me to do next.  Next, I got to relax in the tub for 45 minutes.  I didn't know this at the time but if you get in the tub and are having "fake"contractions it will help to stop them, but if they are "real" then it helps them along and you'll progress.  I noticed while in the tub that my contractions were more intense, but I still wasn't in horrible pain or anything.

After the 45 minutes, my nurse came back in and told me that my midwife was coming to see me and check me again.  She also was very encouraging and told me that she really thought I wasn't going home without a baby.  I was checked again and I was a good 6 cm!  Whoo hoo!  My midwife said "Wow, you're going to go quick...and Oh! did you feel that? Your water just broke!"  I thought to myself "thank gosh I didn't just pee on myself!  After my water broke the pain started-my contractions were intense and I was ready for the epidural!  They had known I wanted the epidural, so they got everything started quickly and within 30 minutes I felt good and relaxed!

This was all around 8:30am and we finally knew that we were not leaving the hospital without our sweet little girl!  This is when ALL the phone calls were made!  I got to relax for 2 hours since I hadn't had any sleep and Jong and I both started texting and calling away!

About 11am my nurses came in and we pushed for 30 minutes. I say "we" because it is definitely a team effort!  Then they turned down my epidural so I would feel more pressure and flipped me on my side and let me lay in that position for 20 minutes.  They wanted the baby to move down a little on her on without me doing more pushing.  I then started to feel more pressure so I called them back in and we  pushed again for about 30 minutes and finally our sweet little bundle of  joy was here!

I can't describe the feeling.  It was truly amazing and such a gift from God.  To finally have her here and look at her and hold her.  My emotions were all over the place, as were Jong's.  And that's our story of our baby girls arrival.  I was very fortunate to have an easy and quick labor and such a wonderful team helping me all along the way!
